GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni conceded Wednesday that he has “no clue” when point guard Baron Davis might debut, and he also did not dispute the idea that the team might be interested in adding another point guard.
Cleveland floor general Ramon Sessions has been linked to various potential trades.
“That’s a thing for Glen [Grunwald],” D’Antoni, speaking generally, said of the Knicks interim GM. “I’m sure he’s sitting there going, ‘What can we do if Plan A doesn’t work? Plan B, Plan C.’ He’s looking at every possibility….Whatever will make our team better, we’ll do.”
Sessions, 25, was dealt to the Cavaliers from Minnesota in the summer of 2010. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports wrote that the Lakers might be a likely landing spot for Sessions, who backs up No. 1 overall draft pick Kyrie Irving at the point.
“It’s been like that for me for a few years now,” Sessions told The Cleveland Plain-Dealer, referring to trade talk. “There’s always something with that. [I] haven’t been traded yet. Cleveland now, Cleveland later. I’m not really into all of that.
“I try to block it out. It’s tough at times, but you have to be mentally prepared to play basketball.”
The Knicks have been counting on Davis, 32, to be their savior but after targeting a late-January recovery from a herniated disk, D’Antoni now says he has no idea when Davis might debut.
Davis worked out Wednesday, but D’Antoni said he would not have participated in contact drills had there been an opportunity.
“He did more today than he did [Tuesday],” D’Antoni said. “Today he’s got it up. Now, what does that mean? He’s not on the floor. He’s not playing contact today, tomorrow hopefully he is.”
He added: “I really don’t know. I don’t know the timetable. I don’t know if he’ll be ready next week. I don’t know if he’ll be ready tomorrow. I don’t know if it’s a month. Just don’t know. We’re playing it by ear.
“I’m hoping for the best-case scenario and that’s get him back as soon as we can, but I really don’t know. I have no clue.”
