St. John’s has emerged as a potential landing spot for former Arizona point guard Josiah Turner, multiple sources told SNY.tv.
Turner has ties to several current and future Johnnies in that a year ago he was named MVP of the iS8/Nike Spring Championship final in Queens.
Turner teamed up with current St. John’s wing Sir’Dominic Pointer, his former Quality Education (N.C.) teammate, to help the Sean Bell All-Stars beat Real Scout in that final.
JaKarr Sampson, who will join the Johnnies next season, was on that Real Scout team and was impressed with how Turner ran his team in the final.
“I like him, I liked him a lot,” Sampson told SNY.tv then. “He was at all the Nike camps, the LeBron camp. He’s a good player.”
The 6-foot-3 Turner parted ways earlier this month with Arizona coach Sean Miller after averaging 6.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
“Josiah made a great deal of progress as a student-athlete in his year with us,” Miller said. “He will finish this semester and leave in good academic standing. All of us at Arizona wish him well in his future.”
Turner initially picked Arizona over UCLA, Louisville and Kansas. He will have to sit a year per NCAA transfer regulations once he transfers.
