Steve Novak was present Wednesday at the all-important Bird Rights hearing and expects a decision within the next two weeks.
Both Novak and Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin become free agents July 1.
If the Knicks and the Players’ Association win the case, the team would not have to use its $5 million mid-level exception on Lin or Novak, and could instead spend it on a veteran point guard like Steve Nash.
“I can’t thank Jeffrey Kessler and @TheNBPA enough for all the work they have put into this Birds Rights case. A decision in about 2 weeks,” Novak Tweeted.
Kessler is a highly prominent sports lawyer who works at the law firm of Winston & Strawn.
“I think [a decision] will be relatively fast,” NBA commissioner David Stern told reporters Tuesday night. “We’re anticipating it is in favor of [us] by the clear language of the agreement.’’
