Anthony “Cat” Barber will visit Kansas Aug. 31 on the first of his official visits, his mother told SNY.tv Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2 Hampton (Va.) floor general will hit Kansas (Aug. 31-Sept. 2), then trip to Louisville (Sept. 7-9), N.C. State (Sept. 14-16) and Alabama (Sept. 21-23).
“We were just trying to see when was a good time for everybody,” Pam Barber told SNY.tv of the updated schedule.
She said education will be her top priority in choosing a school.
“How important education is for them,” she said. “Just will Anthony be with someone he’s comfortable with. Is someone going to stop him with when he’s wrong, praise him when he’s right.”
Barber and Boo Williams teammate Troy Williams have talked about playing together, potentially at Alabama or Louisville.
Whether they could team up at Kansas depends in part on what level of interest Kansas shows in Williams.
“I don’t think Kansas has offered Troy yet,” Hampton assistant Mark Godwin said. “I know Alabama and Louisville have. With the schools that they have now, it would be more toward Alabama or Louisville.
“If Kansas offered Troy, there’s a good chance that they could play together.”
He added: “[Kansas] has the kid Andrew White and they play the same position. I don’t know if Kansas would be a good fit for Troy.”
Barber, on the other hand, could get immediate playing time at Kansas.
“I think Cat is in a better position in terms of getting on the floor and playing right away without looking over his shoulder,” Godwin said.
Both players are likely to end up where they can get significant playing time.
“If both of them get on the floor that would be their leading factor in deciding if they go to the same school,” Godwin said.
And if they did wind up somewhere together?
“I think they could be real good together, honestly,” he said. “I think they can be really good together.”
Said Pam: “Anything is possible. They may play together. We’re just not sure right now.”
