Gill St. Bernard’s power forward Austin Colbert is enjoying his official visit to Villanova and is closing in on a decision in the next week.
The 6-foot-9 Colbert attended Villanova’s 69-59 exhibition on Thursday night win over Carleton (that noted Ultimate Frisbee powerhouse).
Senior forward Mouphtaou Yarou paced Villanova with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore guard Darrun Hilliard added 15 points, three assists, and three rebounds. Freshman point guard Ryan Arcidiacono got his first start for coach Jay Wright’s club after missing his senior season at Neshaminy (Pa.) High after back surgery.
“I like the campus a lot,” Colbert texted SNY.tv. “I like how everybody is supportive and it’s a great fit for me. I’ve been hanging out with the coaches and players.
“I went to see the exhibition game last night and now we are going to host the Special Olympics.”
Colbert is also considering Illinois, Miami and Seton Hall, but recently added Villanova as his fourth option.
Tyler Roberson, a 6-8 small forward out of Roselle (N.J.) Catholic, is also considering Villanova along with Syracuse and Kansas.
“I visited Villanova this past weekend and attended their Midnight Madness,” Roberson wrote on his player’s blog on ZAGSBLOG. “I had fun and really enjoyed it. Although I was only at Villanova for a day I felt at home and knew after the visit that I didn’t need to take my last visit.”
It is conceivable Villanova could wind up with both New Jersey forwards since they will have frontcourt needs next year after Yarou and Mo Sutton graduate.
Colbert plans to announce Nov. 7 on SNY.tv.
“That’s still the plan,” he said.
