I meant to put this up earlier today but I had to write two SNY stories and take my daughter Grace to soccer crosstown…better late than never.
Today is the 28th anniversary of the shooting death of John Lennon. I was 12 years old at the time. I know much of America learned the news from Howard Cosell on ‘Monday Night Football.’
The other day I heard an interview with James Taylor, who originally signed to Apple Records, in which he said he was living the next block up from the Dakota when Lennon was shot. Taylor was on the phone at the time of the shooting and heard five gunshots. The person on the other end was talking about the Manson murder case in California and he said that things were bad here in New York as well. “The police just shot someone on the street,” he said. It turned out it was John Lennon.
We miss you, John, but your music lives on….
