Memphis sophomore guard Jeff Robinson is strongly considering transferring during or after this year, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Robinson is unhappy with his playing time and is considering Seton Hall, Rutgers, UMass, Xavier, St. Joe’s and Miami. He would have two years of eligibility remaining if he leaves after the season and two-and-a-half if he transfers in December.
“I know that he hasn’t made up his mind yet [about where to go to],” the source said. “The final decision has not been made.”
A strong slasher and finisher, Robinson helped lead St. Patrick of Elizabeth to back-to-back New Jersey Tournament of Champions crowns in 2006 and ’07 while playing alongside current Villanova sophomore Corey Fisher.
Last year at Memphis he averaged 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds. This year he’s averaging 1.8 points and 1.0 boards in 9.4 minutes.
Robinson, a Trenton, N.J. native, would consider transferring after this semester if he could find a school with an open scholarship. Seton Hall would appear to fit that criteria.
Hashim “Big City” Bailey, a native of Paterson, N.J., transferred from Memphis after last season and is now sitting out the year at UMass.
