Enigmatic swingman J.R. Smith will return to the Knicks on a four-year deal worth $24.7 million, according to the New York Post and Daily News.
Smith’s agent, Leon Rose, informed both tabloids.
The reigning Sixth Man of the Year, Smith will reportedly have a player option after the third year.
Smith received some interest from a few other teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks, but the Freehold, N.J., native’s heart was always with the Knicks.
His brother, Chris Smith, is on the Knicks’ summer league roster and is hoping to challenge for the Knicks’ backup point guard spot.
Meantime, the Knicks appear close to re-signing Argentine point guard Pablo Prigioni for two years.
Earlier this week, the Knicks reportedly dealt Marcus Camby, Steve Novak and two draft picks, including their No. 1 pick in 2016, for Toronto’s Andrea Bargnani.
The Knicks are also in the market for a rebounder/defender and have reportedly contacted Peekskill, N.Y., native Elton Brand.
Brand’s high school coach, Lou Panzanaro, told SNY.tv that Brand was also considering Dallas, Cleveland and Chicago.
