Montaque Gill-Caesar will wait until spring to make a decision on his future.
The 5-star small forward out of Huntington Prep (WV) spoke with Larry Vaught from Vaughts Views about his upcoming decision on not only where to attend college, but to possibly reclassify to the Class of 2014, and attend college a year early. He says he will wait to make the decision to find the ideal fit.
“It will just depend on the school and it will have to be a fit where I know I will excel and make an immediate impact,” Gill-Caesar told Vaught. “That’s the reason I will wait until spring to decide probably unless something just feels really right before then.”
Gill-Caesar currently has offers from Michigan State, Baylor, Illinois, Ohio State, Purdue and UCF. He says that the UK offer has not officially come in, but it is pretty clear that if he wants one, it will be there.
“They have basically made it clear the opportunity to recruit me is there,” Gill-Caesar told Vaught. “I know a lot of people are already saying I am going there, but I am still wide open and I am not sure where I am going. I like them and their winning tradition.”
Kentucky assistant coach Orlando Antigua watched Gill-Caesar last month, and Gill-Caesar took a visit to Kentucky in November. He says that he likes how John Calipari approaches the game.
“He doesn’t sugar-coast anything,” Gill-Caesar told Vaught. “He tells you what you need to hear and not what you want to hear. As a player, that helps you grow. You need to hear what you need to improve on rather than just what you are good at. He’s a funny guy, too. Even in drills, he can be funny. I think you can get to the NBA from anywhere, but his track record getting people to the league is impressive.”
Gill-Caesar will play in the Marshall County Hoop Fest vs. Atlanta Sports Academy on Friday at 6:30 PM EST, and then will take on Kentucky-signee Trey Lyles and Arsenal Tech (In.) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST.
