LAS VEGAS (AP) — With six new players donning a Butler uniform this season, coach Chris Holtmann isn’t sure what to expect from his Bulldogs.

Some have labeled this season as a rebuilding year. Holtmann shrugs it off with a wait-and-see attitude.

He may not have to wait any longer, as his Bulldogs showed plenty of resolve Friday night in a 69-65 victory over No. 8 Arizona in the championship game of the Continental Las Vegas Invitational.

Kelan Martin had 16 points, while Andrew Chrabascz had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead Butler (6-0), while Avery Woodson contributed 13 points, Kamar Baldwin had 11 and Tyler Wideman had eight rebounds.

Chrabascz was named MVP of the tournament.

(AP) — Johnathan Motley scored 20 of his 26 points in the first half to lead No. 20 Baylor to a 73-58 victory over No. 24 Michigan State on Thursday to reach the Battle 4 Atlantis championship game at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. added 14 points and eight rebounds — nearly all in the second half — for the Bears (5-0). They sprinted out of the break with a 12-2 run and shot 55 percent in the second half.

Freshman Miles Bridges had 15 points for the Spartans (3-3). They shot 39 percent in the second half, going one of 10 on three-pointers.

In the other Battle 4 Atlantis semifinal, Donovan Mitchell made two three-pointers in the final 4 1/2 minutes to finish with 14 points and help No. 10 Louisville beat Wichita State, 62-52.

Arizona redshirt freshman wing Ray Smith announced he has ended his basketball career after suffering a third ACL on Tuesday during an exhibition game.

The 6-foot-8 Smith missed all of last season with a medical redshirt due to an ACL tear. He was projected as the No. 26 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com.

Smith said in his tweet that “sometimes in life all you can do is the best that you can do,” and that the “6-8 long athletic wing who can play multiple positions is out.”

Arizona, the preseason No. 10 team in the AP Poll, appears to be in disarray and the season doesn’t officially start for more than a week.

Redshirt freshman forward Ray Smith, who has already suffered two ACL tears, was injured again on Tuesday during an 86-35 exhibition win over College of Idaho. Sophomore guard Allonzo Trier sat on the bench amid rumors of his uncertain future and sophomore center Chance Comanche was suspended for academic reasons.

“We don’t really know exactly what happened,” head coach Sean Miller said of Smith, according to the Daily Star. “Certainly it didn’t look good. We’ll know more in the next couple of days but this this was the first time he’s been out there since both Red-Blue games and it was exciting .to see him out there for the first time. With that, to me, that trumps everything else tonight.”
