  • Brian Bowen, the 6-foot-7 small forward who led La Lumiere (Ind.) to the Dick’s Nationals championship earlier this month in New York, is still weighing his five schools of Arizona, Creighton, Michigan State, N.C. State and Texas, but also visited Oregon on Monday with his mother, a source confirmed to ZAGSBLOG.

“Oregon’s trying to talk to me because Troy [Brown’s] been talking to me as well,” he said at the recent Jordan Brand Classic. “They’ve just called because they know I haven’t decided yet.”

Bowen then mentioned Ohio State and Missouri, and told Rivals.com on Friday at the BallisLife.com All-American Game in California that Florida State is now involved.

Bowen also has been linked to DePaul after the school hired former La Lumiere coach Shane Heirman and then on Monday landed a commitment from point guard Tyger Campbell, who will reclassify to 2018 from 2019.

“At this point I’m just weighing all my options,” he told Rivals. “It’s all about me picking the right school. Every program has given me their best pitch and now it’s just about when I want to make my decision,” Bowen said.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — La Lumiere School (IN) small forward Brian Bowen is nearing his college decision.

The five-star recruit and No. 13 ranked player in ESPN’s class of 2017 will take an official visit to Michigan State at the end of the month, and then make his decision shortly after. (Bowen initially planned to take an unofficial visit.)

The Spartans have a matchup on Jan. 29 against in-state rival Michigan when Bowen will take his visit.

Bowen’s final five schools include Arizona, Creighton, North Carolina State and Texas to go along with Michigan State.

“Whenever I get that gut feeling on exactly where I want to go to school,” he said of a commitment timeline after scoring 18 points as No. 1-ranked La Lumiere fell to Marvin Bagley and Sierra Canyon (CA), 76-74. “Once I take this visit to Michigan State at the end of the month, right after that is when I’ll be making my decision.”

COLUMBIA, S.C.– Brian “Tugs” Bowen, the 6-foot-7 small forward from La Lumiere (IN),  expects to make his college decision relatively soon after the New Year.

“That decision process is going very well right now,” Bowen said. “I’m down to my five schools, I’ve taken all of my official visits probably in a couple weeks, or going into January, I’ll make my decision, so we will see where it goes from here.”

Bowen took a bit of time to break down each school in his top five, starting with Arizona.

Arizona is a big time program and Sean Miller is a great coach,” Bowen said. “Their pitch is their style of play and the amount of guys they’ve got to the NBA at my position, so I really like that about them.”
