  • Carmelo Anthony will have to skip his warm-weather vacation to play in the All-Star Game.

Anthony was named by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to replace injured Eastern Conference All-Star reserve Kevin Love in the 2017 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

Love, who was named an All-Star for the fourth time, had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Feb. 14.  The Cavaliers have estimated that he will return to play in approximately six weeks.

“All of this just happened,” Anthony told the New York Post in Oklahoma City where he scored 30 points as Knicks lost to the Thunder, 116-105. “Last thing I talked to my family was spending time and taking this break. I don’t want to make it a downer. I’ll enjoy the weekend.

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s still an honor to be an All-Star, to represent our organization and New York City. I was looking forward to my break. It’s life. Things happen in life. You got to make decisions.’’

Carmelo Anthony’s high school coach says he’s “shocked” by some of Phil Jackson’s comments regarding the Knicks star, and adds “enough is enough” when it comes to the treatment of Anthony in New York.

“I don’t know if that’s just part of the business but yeah I’m shocked at some of the stuff I’ve heard him say, and some of his Tweets,” legendary Oak Hill Academy (VA) coach Steve Smith said Thursday on The 4 Quarters Podcast. “It’s surprising because I know Melo loves his hometown and playing with the Knicks but it’s just going South right now. It’s going South fast, and I’m sure he’s not happy but he doesn’t come come across [that way]. He’s making himself proud the way he’s handling the whole situation.

“I heard everybody ripping Phil [on Wednesday] on different shows on ESPN and so forth. It’s not my place to say much but knowing Carmelo and the whole situation, it doesn’t look very good right now.”

Carmelo Anthony’s tough week continued on Thursday when he was not named an NBA All-Star for the first time since 2009.

When the list of reserves came out, Anthony’s name was not on it.

Anthony is averaging 22.7 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Knicks (20-27), losers of 14-of-18.

Anthony, an NBA All-Star every year from 2010-16, has been the subject of trade rumors this week involving the Cavaliers, Celtics and Clippers as it has become apparent that Knicks President Phil Jackson is actively shopping Anthony, who has a no-trade clause.

This will also the first All-Star Game without Anthony or Dwyane Wade since 2003-04, their rookie seasons, per ESPN.

Among those named to the game as reserves were two-time reigning NBA All-Star MVP Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder and first-time All-Stars Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz, DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers and former Rice High School star Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Hornets.
