COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. — Arizona commit Zeke Nnaji from Hopkins (MN) High School spoke with ZAGSBLOG Saturday at the USA U-19 Men’s Basketball Training Camp about his expectations for next season at Arizona.

“The goal is obviously to win a national championship,” said Nnaji. “For myself, I want to help the team win in anyway that I can. I think that we have a great class coming in and we can do really big things.”

Arizona will bring in a five-man recruiting class of Nnaji, Nico Mannion, Josh Green, Terry Armstrong <g class="gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="4" data-gr-id="4">and</g> Christian Koloko. They have also landed transfers Jordan Brown, Jemarl Baker <g class="gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="5" data-gr-id="5">and</g> Max Hazzard, who will sit out the 2019-20 season.

Arizona head coach Sean Miller here watching the five-on-five drills here at the Team USA U-19 Training Camp pic.twitter.com/syz5v2N2Qo
— Jacob Polacheck (@JacobPolacheck) June 16, 2019

On Wednesday, it was reported that at least six college basketball programs will be notified of major NCAA violations by this summer.

Arizona recently saw former assistant coach Book Richardson sentenced to three months in prison and two years of probation for his role in the ongoing college basketball bribery scandal.

Despite the recent report, Nnaji is unconcerned about potential penalties.

“Not at all,” he said. “I’ve talked with the coaches. They’ve been clear about everything. A lot that is floating around is just rumors that are trying to make us look bad. At the end of the day, I know that we’re innocent.”

Nnaji impressed on Saturday during the first practice of the USA U-19 Training Camp.

“I felt it was good,” he said. “I know nobody was here, but I’m still trying to take it seriously. My body was a little bit tight.”

Nnaji is looking to make it onto the official, 12-member roster for the 2019 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team, which will be selected by the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team Committee.

“I’m just trying to show my versatility because I know that only 12 guys can make the team,” said Nnaji. “We’ve got a lot of guys here, so I’m trying to do whatever I can to show that whatever a coach needs, I can do.”

Finalists for the team are expected to be announced on the morning of June 18, and the team will be named prior to its departure for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Greece on June 24. The FIBA U19 World Cup will take place June 29-July 7 in Heraklion, Greece.

Nico Mannion, the 6-foot-3 point guard from Pinnacle (AZ) High School, reaffirmed his commitment to Arizona, he told Cronkite News on Tuesday.

Arizona is one of the schools tied to the federal basketball scandal where a formal NCAA inquiry has begun. Arizona assistant coach Mark Phelps was dismissed earlier this month for a violation that was not related to the federal inquiry, according to a statement issued by the university.

“I was very close to coach Phelps,” Mannion said. “He was the one who started recruiting me, so that (firing) was a hard one for me to swallow.”

Yet Mannion remains committed to Arizona.

“The information that me and my family got from Arizona is that everything’s fine (down) there,” said Mannion.

After researching the situation with his father, Pace Mannion, he said he didn’t have any second thoughts.

“I really didn’t. I’m really confident with all the coaching staff down there and the program,” he said. “With all the answers they’ve given us, I really have nothing to be worried about.”

According to 247Sports, Mannion is ranked as the No. 10 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 1 player from the state of Arizona. He is joined by Josh Green, Zeke Nnaji, Terry Armstrong, and Christian Koloko in Arizona’s 2019 class.

Josh Green, the 6-foot-6 small forward from IMG (FL) Academy, announced his commitment to Arizona on Thursday, in a video released via Twitter. He will take his official visit to Arizona later this month (Oct. 11-13).

“This is probably the biggest decision I’ve ever made,” said Green in the video. “I want to look back on it and make sure I made the right choice. I choose to be a Wildcat.”

Green chose Arizona over his final six of North Carolina, Villanova, Kansas, USC, and UNLV. He took his first official visit to North Carolina last month (Sept. 21-23).

He broke down his thoughts on Arizona for ZAGSBLOG last month.

“Arizona’s always prioritized me for a while now,” said Green. “They were one of the earliest schools which offered me and they’ve continued to stay in contact with me so I would just fit into their system really well. I would be able to play a combo guard position, one and two, so just a great system for me to play in and a great conference.”

According to 247Sports, Green is ranked as the No. 10 and the No. 3 player from the state of Florida. He joins Nico Mannion and Christian Koloko as the third commit in Arizona’s 2019 class.

This past summer, Mannion and Green played together with West Coast Elite on the Under Armour Association.

Arizona will also host 2019 shooting guard Terry Armstrong for an official visit this weekend (Oct. 5).
