  • With high-flying shooting guard Hamidou Diallo set to announce his college choice on Saturday in New York, one of his AAU coaches is comparing him to some fellow high-flyers who starred in the NBA.

“I definitely see it with his athleticism, I think he’s really unique,” Chris Alesi of the NY Rens said on The 4 Quarters Podcast. “I don’t think that there’s one guy that you can really point to, just because his game is different. But I definitely see Vince Carter, Dwyane Wade, guys who are just freakishly athletic.

“But there’s a lot more to Hamidou Diallo. He can shoot the ball better than I’ve ever seen him shoot it. And I think the biggest thing with Hamidou, wherever he ends, he is a program-changer and I’ve seen that first-hand unfold with the Rens.”

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Diallo is expected to decide between Kentucky and UConn, with Arizona, Syracuse, Indiana and Kansas also having been on his list.

Hamidou Diallo will announce his college decision on Saturday in his hometown of Queens, N.Y.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is expected to choose between Kentucky, which begins its second semester Jan. 11, Arizona (Jan. 11) and UConn (Jan. 17). He will enroll for the second semester.

He had also listed Indiana, Syracuse and Kansas on his original list of schools.

Hamidou Diallo finished up what he called a “great” official visit to Kentucky on Wednesday.

The supremely athletic 6-foot-5, 190-pound shooting guard from Putnam Science Academy (CT) has now taken officials to both UConn and Kentucky — both of which were first reported by ZAGSBLOG.

He’s expected to take an official to Arizona in the new year, although no date has been nailed down. Arizona’s Jan. 5 game with Utah is a possibility.

Hamidou Diallo will take his official visit to Kentucky Dec. 26-28 and is also expected to take one to  Arizona, ZAGSBLOG has learned.

Kentucky does not play again until Dec. 29 at Ole Miss, and doesn’t play at home until Jan. 3 against Texas A&M, so Diallo’s visit there won’t happen for a game.

The Arizona visit could come in early January. Arizona hosts Utah Jan. 5.

The 6-foot-6 Diallo is eligible for the 2017 NBA Draft and is considering enrolling in a college at the semester break but no final decisions have yet been made, sources close to Diallo told ZAGSBLOG. It also remains undecided whether the high-flying guard would suit up for a college in the second semester. (He could also opt to sit out, practice and play the 2017-18 season in college.)

Kentucky on Friday landed a pledge from small forward Jarred Vanderbilt, giving them five commits for 2017, including three frontcourt players in Vanderbilt, Nick Richards and P.J. Washington. They have two guards committed in Quade Green and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander but have long coveted the high-flying Diallo. Green previously told ZAGSBLOG he would try to recruit Diallo to Kentucky.

Kentucky’s pitch to Diallo will likely include the argument that he would get the chance to practice against some of the best guards in the game on a daily basis, including projected one-and-done first-round picks Malik Monk and De’Aaron Fox and sophomore guard Isaiah Briscoe.

Kentucky coach John Calipari saw Diallo earlier this month at the PSA Cardinals Showcase in Pottstown, Pa., and assistant Tony Barbee saw Diallo at the National Prep Showcase last month in New Haven.

Diallo is also considering Indiana, Syracuse and Kansas.

Diallo took his first official visit to UConn — first reported by ZAGSBLOG — last week and it culminated in the Huskies’ 70-67 loss to Auburn Friday afternoon at the XL Center.

As part of his first official visit, Hamidou Diallo attended UConn’s practice on Thursday at XL Center, took some shots and chatted with head coach Kevin Ollie.

The official visit — first reported by ZAGSBLOG — will culminate on Friday with Diallo attending the Auburn-UConn game (2:30 p.m., ESPN2).

UConn already has Mamadou Diarra, Diallo’s friend and former Putnam Science teammate, on the roster although he’s out for the year with an injury. UConn was also three deep with Ollie and two assistants watching Diallo and Putnam Science this week at the City of Palms Classic.

Hamidou Diallo will take his first official visit to UConn beginning this week and will be on hand for Friday’s game against Auburn in Hartford, Putnam Science Academy (CT) head coach Tom Espinosa told ZAGSBLOG.

Diallo and his Putnam Science Academy (CT) teammates are currently in Florida and will play IMG Academy Wednesday afternoon. After that the plan is to take a flight home and for him to visit UConn.

UConn has been recruiting the 6-foot-6 Putnam Science shooting guard for several years and went three deep to watch him on Tuesday at the City of Palms Classic. With head coach Kevin Ollie, associate head coach Glen Miller and assistant Dwayne Killings watching, Diallo went for 21 points and 7 rebounds in a loss to Mohamed Bamba and Westtown (PA). School. Bamba is also a UConn target.

UConn, which has former Putnam Science and Diallo buddy Mamadou Diarra on its roster, is considered among the frontrunners for Diallo, along with Kentucky.

UConn rolled in three deep with head coach Kevin Ollie and two assistants.

Indiana head man Tom Crean was in the house.

So was Syracuse assistant Adrian Autry and Kansas assistant Norm Roberts.

All were on hand at the City of Palms Classic for the matchup between Mohamed Bamba and Westtown (PA) School and Hamidou Diallo and Putnam Science Academy (CT) in the Signature Series final.
