Trevon Duval Headlining Massive Recruiting Weekend for Kansas
With the addition of Trevon Duval to
Scout.com on Monday released its latest team recruiting rankings for the Class of 2017 and Duke, Kentucky and Kansas were nowhere to be found.
It’s a bit jarring for those of us following college basketball recruiting to see a Top 25 list without all three of those bluebloods anywhere to be seen.
After all, Kentucky and Duke have been 1-2 (in differing orders) in the Scout rankings for eight straight years, and Kansas is usually near the top, too.
Without them, Bruce Pearl and Auburn ranks No. 1 with their three-member class of Austin Wiley, Davion Mitchell and Chuma Okeke, followed by Washington, Arizona, Illinois and Western Kentucky, where Rick Stansbury has made national headlines with a class that includes Mitchell Robinson and Josh Anderson.
ROSELLE, N.J. — Kansas coach Bill Self says the loaded batch of incoming college freshmen — which includes new Jayhawk Josh Jackson — will play a critical role in determining the NCAA championship in 2016-17.
That would be quite a departure from this past season when there wasn’t a single one-and-done player in the Final Four, where national champion Villanova as well as North Carolina, Oklahoma and Syracuse were all led by upperclassmen.
“I like what Denzel [Valentine] said [in accepting the AP Player of the Year Award at the Final Four], it’s not a competition between seniors and freshman,” Self told SNY.tv exclusively on Friday at the NJ Coaches’ Clinic at Roselle Catholic High School. “It’s not a competition. Everything’s cyclical and guys develop at different speeds and rates but I do think that it was great for the college game to have so many veterans have an impact on their college programs [this past year].

Only one day after watching targets Carlton Bragg and Jayson Tatum, Kentucky head coach John Calipari was in Marietta, Georgia to see Jaylen Brown, the No. 2 prospect in the 2015 class according to 247Sports.
With five current Kentucky players on the DraftExpress 2015 Mock Draft and with two more — Trey Lyles and Devin Booker — gaining more praise from NBA scouts, Calipari is wasting no time in looking to secure Kentucky’s fourth commitment in the 2015 class.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari is on hand Friday to see 2015 Cleveland (OH) Villa Angela-St.Joseph five-star forward Carlton Bragg at the Cancer Research Classic in Wheeling, W.V.
Kansas head coach Bill Self and assistant Norm Roberts and Illinois assistant Dustin Ford are also expected.
SNY.tv confirmed what was first reported by the Lexington-Herald.
Bragg, and his Villa Angela teammates, will face Arlington Country Day (Fla), which features 2015 top 100 forward Tulio Da Silva and 2016 Top 100 guards Mario Kegler and Lamonte Turner.
