  • Two Pac-12 players — Washington freshman guard Markelle Fultz and UCLA freshman guard Lonzo Ball — are the projected top two picks in the latest 2017 NBA Mock Draft from DraftExpress.com.

Kentucky (4) and Duke (3) have seven combined players in the mock.

Following Fultz and Ball, the site has N.C. State point guard Dennis Smith Jr., at No. 3, Kansas wing Josh Jackson at No. 4, Duke small forward Jayson Tatum at No. 5, Kentucky shooting guard Malik Monk at No. 6, Florida State small forward Jonathan Isaac at No. 7, Arizona power forward Lauri Markkanen at No. 8, Indiana small forward OG Anunoby at No. 9 and Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox at No. 10.

All but Anunoby would be one-and-done.

For those holding out hope of seeing Lonzo and LiAngelo Ball balling it up at UCLA during the 2017-18 season, Steve Alford says Lonzo is “absolutely” going to be one-and-done.

Not exactly shocking news, considering Ball is now the projected No. 4 pick via DraftExpress.com and will be watched by nearly 50 NBA scouts on Saturday when No. 2 UCLA (11-0) faces Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic in Las Vegas.

But it isn’t always that a head coach comes flat out and says that about a star freshman, either.

“Do we know he’s a done and done, do we know he’s not gonna be here long? Absolutely,” Alford told ESPN’s Cari Champion for a feature that aired Friday. “Do his teammates know that? Absolutely. Everybody understands that but if you’re around ‘Zo, you would think this is a lifetime deal.”

UCLA freshman Lonzo Ball will enter Saturday’s game at No. 1 Kentucky having been named the MVP of the Wooden Classic and the Pac-12 Player of the Week.

Kentucky freshman De’Aaron Fox will enter the game against No. 11 UCLA coming off just the second triple-double in Kentucky history (an accomplishment that was later disputed by ESPN, but then determined to be legitimate by the official scorer).

Go ahead and get the popcorn ready for this nationally televised matchup featuring these two Speedy Gonzales-type floor generals of undefeated teams.

The 6-foot-6 Ball is now projected as the No. 4 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, while the 6-4 Fox is currently projected at No. 10. Expect a slew of NBA personnel and Draft experts to attend this game and also scrutinize it on TV.

UCLA freshman point guard Lonzo Ball and Kentucky freshman shooting guard Malik Monk both made big leaps in the latest 2017 NBA Mock Draft from DraftExpress.com.

The 6-foot-6 Ball moved up to No. 4 from No. 16, while the 6-4 Monk moved up to No. 5 from No. 11.

The top three picks remained Washington freshman guard Markelle Fultz at No. 1, N.C. State freshman point guard Dennis Smith Jr. at No. 2 and Kansas freshman wing Josh Jackson at No. 3. All would be one-and-dones, as would Ball and Monk.

“Ball is special,” one NBA scout told ZAGSBLOG. “Top three.”

Ball went for 16 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds Sunday night when the No. 14 Bruins topped Texas A&M, 74-67, to win the Wooden Legacy championship. He was named MVP of the event and the Pac-12 Player of the Week.

For the season, he’s averaging 16.0 points, 9.1 assists and 5.3 rebounds.

“He’s a terrific talent but he’s going to continue to get better,” UCLA coach Steve Alford said. “That might be scary but he’s going to get better.”
