  • Naz Reid , the 6-foot-10 Class of 2018 big man from Sports U and Roselle (N.J.) Catholic, recently cut his list to 10 schools and is only now starting to “get serious” about his recruitment, according to RC head coach Dave Boff.

The No. 11-ranked player in the 2018 ESPN 60, Reid now lists a 10 of Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, North Carolina, Rutgers, Seton Hall, UCLA and UConn.

“His recruitment is just really starting to get to a point where he’s got to start  making some decisions on a bunch of different things and really start to look at this seriously,” Boff said on The 4 Quarters Podcast.

NEW YORK — At 6 feet, 10 inches and with a chiseled frame, Naz Reid looks the part of a future professional basketball player.

The Sports U and Roselle Catholic big man has lived up to his potential in the first live period of April, with Division 1 coaches raving about his basketball IQ and diverse skillset while playing at Basketball City on the Under Armor Association circuit.

“I feel like I’m playing alright, I could do better,” he told me on Saturday. “I could do better scoring-wise, but it will come.”

A literal Who’s Who of college programs are watching Reid and his Sports U teammates, including Jahvon Quinerly and Luther Muhammad, here this weekend. Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, Louisville, Maryland, St. John’s, Rutgers and Seton Hall are just some of the schools sitting courtside.

John Calipari has done well in recent years recruiting forwards and big men from the New York/New Jersey area.

Kentucky has landed New Jersey products Dakari Johnson, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Karl-Anthony Towns and Nick Richards in the last few years, as well as guard Isaiah Briscoe.

So it made sense that Calipari was back in the area on Good Friday meeting with Moses Brown, the 7-foot-1 junior big man from Archbishop Molloy, and Naz Reid, the 6-10 post from Roselle (N.J.) Catholic, the same school that produced Briscoe.

Brown is ranked No. 6 in the 2018 ESPN 60, while Reid is No. 11. Both high school staffs said Kentucky will continue to evaluate the players this spring and summer before making an offer.

ROSELLE, N.J. — Naz Reid and his Roselle Catholic teammates found themselves down by 14 points at the half to a Jalen Carey-led Montclair Immaculate team on Sunday at the Primetime Shootout.

It wouldn’t have been a good look for the Lions to lose on their home court to a young upstart team that wants what Roselle Catholic has: two New Jersey Tournament of Champions titles in the last four years.

And that’s when the 6-foot-10 Reid took over.

Dominating against Immaculate’s smaller front line in the paint, Reid scored 25 of his game-high 36 points in the second half and added 18 rebounds and three blocks as the Lions prevailed, 86-74.

Temple-bound guard Nate Pierre-Louis added 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the win.
