  • R.J. Barrett, the No. 1 prospect in the 2019 class, began to hear from colleges at midnight on Wednesday.

And predictably a Who’s Who of Division 1 programs reached out.

Arizona, UCLA, USC, Kentucky, Texas, Kansas, UNLV, South Carolina, Illinois, Duke, Oregon and Michigan all reached out.

The 6-foot-6 Barrett is considering reclassifying to 2018, which would make him eligible for the 2019 NBA Draft.

“Right now, I don’t know,” Barrett told ZAGSBLOG recently when asked about joining the Class of 2018. “Right now I’m still 2019 and I will make a decision in August.”

INDIANAPOLIS — R.J. Barrett, the No. 1 prospect in the 2019 class, is waiting for an offer he can’t refuse. The Canada native’s godfather is Steve Nash, and the 6-foot-7 wing is taking his time deciding whether or not to reclassify to the 2018 class and his future options.

On whether he’ll reclassify, Barrett said the upcoming U19 World Championship in Cairo, Egypt will be a factor in his process. Other than that, the highly-sought after Barrett is playing everything close to the vest.

“Right now, I don’t know,” Barrett said when asked about joining the Class of 2018 at the Nike EYBL stop here, where he made his season debut after sitting out last weekend with a bone bruise in his knee. “Right now I’m still 2019 and I will make a decision in August.”

R.J. Barrett is only a sophomore at Montverde (FL) Academy, but he may be the best overall player in high school basketball at the moment.

Montverde coach Kevin Boyle, who has coached lottery picks Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Kyrie Irving and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, believes Barrett is No. 1 in the nation.

“Barrett is the best player in high school basketball right now,” Boyle told David Dorsey of News-Press.com after the 6-foot-7 Barrett went for 15 points and 5 rebounds to lead Montverde past Memphis (TN) East, 63-54, to win the City of Palms title on Wednesday night. “I think he’s the best, period. He can do everything.”
