  • The North Non-Public B bracket in New Jersey basketball just got a whole lot tougher.

The New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) announced new classifications that will go into effect this year that put several of the state’s best teams all in North Non-Public B, the bracket that produced 13-time TOC winner St. Anthony’s under Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley (now closed) and six-time winner St. Patrick’s/The Patrick School under Kevin Boyle and then Chris Chavannes.

The Patrick School, the defending New Jersey Tournament of Champions winner, moves from South Non-Public B to the North, as do fellow powerhouses Roselle Catholic, Gill St. Bernard’s and St. Mary’s-Elizabeth.

Greg Williams, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound combo guard from Lafayette (LA) Christian Academy, is closing in on a college decision following his most recent official visit to St. John’s for their Midnight Madness event.

Ranked the No. 26 shooting guard in the Class of 2018 by 247Sports.com, Williams also took officials to Tulane and Nevada.

“I’m pretty confident he’s going to sign during the early period,” Greg Williams Sr. said Tuesday by phone. “He likes the choices that he has. A lot of coaches are calling and asking [when he’s going to sign]. They’re hopeful that he doesn’t sign in the early period [so] that they can re-recruit him, but I’m pretty confident he’ll sign in the early period.”

For their 2018 class, St. John’s is focusing on Williams and Prolific Prep (CA) forward Jordan Brown — to go along with committed Montverde (FL) Academy forward Josh Roberts.

Darius Garland, the 6-foot-1 point guard from Brentwood Academy (TN), enjoyed his official visit to UCLA this past weekend and will now huddle with his family about his future plans.

Garland has visited Vanderbilt (Sept. 23-25), Kentucky (Oct. 13-15), Indiana (Oct. 20-22) and UCLA (Oct. 27-29).

“Yeah, we’re done with visits,” his brother, Desmond Nunnery, said by phone. “That was the last one, UCLA. We’ll sit down with the parents and talk about the pros and cons of each school and kind of go from there. I’m not sure, I don’t know if he’s going to do the early signing thing, that’s Nov. 8. We have to kind of sit down and figure it all out maybe Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Nunnery said the UCLA visit went well, and assistant Tyus Edney is coming back Tuesday to see Garland at practice.

Dana Dingle is well acquainted with Seton Hall’s recruiting process.

The former UMass guard who played on John Calipari’s 1996 Final Four team is now the director of the Nike-sponsored NY Lightning on the EYBL circuit.

He coached current Seton Hall senior forward Angel Delgado, and more recently coached Seton Hall commit Anthony Nelson.

Another one of his players, 6-foot-6 Our Savior Lutheran shooting guard Jared Rhoden, will announce his college choice on Saturday. He’s down to a Final Four of Seton Hall, Penn State, Wichita State and Saint Louis.
