  • ROSELLE, N.J.After serving a two-game suspension last week for an altercation in a game a week ago, Nick Richards was anxious to get back on the basketball court on Sunday.

“Yeah, it was frustrating, I don’t like missing games that much,” the 6-foot-11 Richards said of missing two games, including last Sunday’s big matchup with Trevon Duval and IMG Academy.

Richards returned to play for The Patrick School in front of his future college coach, Kentucky’s John Calipari, and managed eight points and 11 rebounds before fouling out as the Celtics handled junior big man Moses Brown and Archbishop Molloy, 86-74, in the Primetime Shootout at Roselle Catholic.

“Yeah, we played against each other a lot of times,” Richards said of the 7-1 Brown, who finished with 19 points. “Whenever we go against each other, it becomes a little crazy, the whole New York-New Jersey rivalry starts to come in, who’s trying to be the best big between the two [states]?”

The Patrick School (N.J.) will be without Kentucky-bound McDonald’s All-American big man Nick Richards for two games after he was ejected from Saturday night’s 42-38 victory over Union Catholic.

Richards and Dayton-bound power forward Jordan Pierce were involved in an altercation and both players were ejected. Pierce grabbed Richards by the neck while the two battled for a rebound, Richards responded by taking a swing that didn’t connect, some pushing and shoving ensued and the two players had to be separated near midcourt.

The 6-foot-11 Richards has to sit out two games, including Sunday’s 75-66 loss to Trevon Duval and IMG Academy at Roselle Catholic and Wednesday’s game against Plainfield which was originally slated for Tuesday.

Richards is eligible to return to practice on Thursday and for next Sunday’s game against 7-foot-1 junior Moses Brown and Archbishop Molloy in the Primetime Shootout at Roselle Catholic.

HILLSIDE, N.J. — As he heads into a huge matchup with Trevon Duval and IMG Academy on Sunday, Jordan Walker is also looking ahead to his future college plans.

The 5-foot-10 point guard from The Patrick School is still weighing whether to attend college in 2017 or ’18, but said Friday he has three school visits in mind for after the high school season ends.

The Celtics are the favorite to win the New Jersey Tournament of Champions title. The New Jersey Non-Public tournament begins Feb. 28, and the TOC final is slated for March 20.

“I know there’s three schools I’m going to visit after the season,” Walker said Friday at The Patrick School. “I’m going to visit Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Indiana.”

HILLSIDE, N.J. — Growing up in Kingston, Jamaica, Nick Richards loved competing in soccer, volleyball and track and field.

He never thought much about the McDonald’s All-American Game until he landed on Long Island in the summer of 2013 ago to pursue his dreams in the game of basketball.

“I knew what [the McDonald’s Game] was, I just didn’t think that I would get selected for it,” Richards said Wednesday in the gym at The Patrick School.

Now playing in just his fourth year of organized basketball, the 6-foot-11 Richards proudly slipped on the McDonald’s All-American jersey in front of his mother, his coaches, his teammates and his schoolmates during a ceremony on the stage in the gym.

UNION, N.J. — As an uncommitted senior point guard, Jordan Walker continues to see his stock rise in his final semester at The Patrick School.

The 5-foot-10 Walker put on his latest dazzling display Friday night when he went for a game-high 22 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists as The Patrick School handled rival Roselle Catholic, 83-65, in the Investors Classic at Kean University.

The matchup was the first of four possible games between the two schools this season, and a critical one for the Celtics (9-3), who are ranked No. 13 by USA Today and have a Tournament of Champions-or-bust mentality this season because their team features seven seniors, five of whom are signed to Division 1 schools.

Kentucky-bound big man Nick Richards added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists, and Monmouth signee Marcus McClary tallied 13 points.
