  • Eric Ayala visited Syracuse for their game against Louisville on Monday and is still weighing whether or not to reclass to 2017 from 2018.

“It was great,” the 6-foot-5 Putnam Science Academy (CT) point guard said. “I got to experience everything first hand. It was one of the best atmospheres I’ve been in! The Dome looks a lot different in person than it does on TV.”

Having missed out on Quade Green (Kentucky) in the Class of 2017, Syracuse would love to add Ayala for next season.

“Their message was to just imagine myself out there on the court while watching the game, and running the offense and coming off pick-and-rolls and making plays, whether that’s creating for one of the bigs or shooters or getting in the lane and finishing around the rim,” he said.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Tyus Battle had a career-high 23 points and Andrew White also had 23 as Syracuse rallied past No. 9 Virginia 66-62 on Saturday, its second win over a ranked team in eight days.

Syracuse (15-9, 7-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) extended its winning streak to four games and remained in the hunt for the postseason. The Orange beat Florida State 82-72 last Saturday.

Kyle Guy had 14 points for Virginia (17-5, 7-3 ACC), which failed to move into a tie with North Carolina for the conference lead.

NEW YORK — Syracuse and Connecticut, forever rivals from a Big East that is never coming back, came to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday evening.

Just like so many of those old Big East epics, aesthetics were not in play. The teams combined for just 30 total field goals and in the end, a foul call, and a questionable one at that, helped decide it as two free throws from Huskies freshman guard Christian Vital, a Queens Village native, with 2.2 seconds to play delivered a 52-50 win in front of 15,347 at the Garden.

That foul call on Tyus Battle came after Vital hauled in a missed Rodney Purvis 3-pointer and was met with the roar of the usual pro-Orange crowd in Gotham. Replays showed that Battle, a former standout at New Jersey parochial powers Gill St. Bernard’s and St. Joseph (Metuchen), appeared to get all ball.

If you’re a college hoops fan, the New York metropolitan area is the place to be this week.
