MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Nigel Hayes nearly notched a triple-double, Ethan Happ had 24 points and 13 rebounds and zone-busting guard Bronson Koenig scored 20 points as No. 17 Wisconsin beat No. 22 Syracuse 77-60 on Tuesday night.

Playing mainly out of the high post, the 6-foot-8 Hayes played perhaps the finest game of his career, finishing with 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 9 points, missing a free throw late that would’ve given him the triple-double.

Koenig, the seasoned senior guard, was 6 of 9 from 3-point range, and the Badgers (6-2) shot 48 percent overall (11 of 23) from behind the arc against the Orange’s 2-3 zone.

Wisconsin led by as much as 17 in the second half before Syracuse (4-2) went on a 6-0 run capped by John Gillon’s layup with 11:25 left. Two Wisconsin turnovers in that span with Koenig on the bench gave Syracuse the opening.

Bourama Sidibe is headed to Syracuse.

The 6-foot-10 native of Mali committed to the Orange on Monday at St. Benedict’s Prep after also considering Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Seton Hall.

“I’m very excited for Bourama,” St. Benedict’s coach Mark Taylor said. “He has earned it. He’s worked very hard and has made tremendous improvement and development over the past three years. Not many people have Bourama’s length, athleticism and timing. He is a game-changer and fits Syracuse’s style like a glove.”

Sidibe took an official visit to Syracuse two weekends ago and associate head coach Mike Hopkins then visited Sidibe at St. Benedict’s, the school that also produced former Orange point guard Tyler Ennis.

Syracuse did pretty well with one fella from Oak Hill Academy (VA).

You may have heard of him. Goes by the name of Carmelo Anthony.

Now head coach Jim Boeheim and his staff are targeting another long forward from the prestigious prep power: 6-foot-9, 237-pound Billy Preston.

“Of course, it’s Melo, he went there and made a big impact,” Preston said Sunday evening by phone. “So they did [mention him] and they said I could be that type of player there and have the same type of role he did. I watched footage on him while I was there and I saw the things he did and I really enjoyed it. Comparing my game to his game and comparing it to future reference, how they said they would play me and where I could see myself, it was all good.”
