  • Oregon is making a late run at Class of 2017 wing Jordan Tucker, who is primarily focusing on Indiana and Villanova and is targeting a decision next month.

Oregon assistant Tony Stubblefield and Indiana assistant Chuck Martin were in to see the 6-foot-7 Tucker on Thursday morning at Marietta (GA) Wheeler.

“Oregon is trying to get in the mix, trying to make a late run based on relationships,” Lou Tucker, Jordan’s father, said by phone.

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. — Scottie Lewis and Bryan Antoine are just sophomores, so there is a long road ahead in their recruitment.

That said, several schools have gotten in on the ground floor and already have an edge.

“Some schools we’re both considering,” the 6-foot-5 Lewis told ZAGSBLOG after his Ranney (N.J.) School team fell to unbeaten St. Anthony’s, 51-48, Tuesday night in the Hoop Group Showcase at Brookdale Community College. “Definitely Florida, Villanova, Kentucky, those are really the top three that we’re both considering going to.”

The 6-4 Antoine is ranked No. 8 in the 2019 ESPN 25, while the 6-5 Lewis is ranked No. 16. Bob Hurley, the Naismith Hall of Fame coach of St. Anthony’s — which has now won 41 straight games dating to 2015 — compared the duo to former Tollentine stars Adrian Autry and Brian Reese.

Villanova’s impressive win at No. 10 Creighton kept the Wildcats at No. 1 for a fifth straight week, while Baylor made the jump from fourth to second.

The only new member of The Associated Press Top 25 is Virginia Tech, which beat Duke 89-75. The Hokies (12-1) jump in at No. 21, their first ranking since the opening week of the 2010-11 season.

Villanova (14-0) received 59 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel Monday to easily outdistance the Bears (13-0), who got the other six votes for No. 1.
