Dominic Magee to Memphis; Chandler to Visit Memphis
Dominic Magee, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard from Harvey (LA) Helen Cox, committed to Memphis early Sunday morning.
“Yeah, I committed to Memphis at 7:30 this morning,” he told SNY.tv by phone.
“It’s a great school and I have a great relationship with the head coach [Josh Pastner]. I have great relationships with the whole staff. I feel very welcome and very wanted.”
Magee also considered Kentucky, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and LSU. Kentucky had yet to offer.
“[Memphis] is losing four senior guards so I felt like everything I wanted Memphis was giving me as far as as chance to play as a freshman,” Magee said. “It’s close to home but I’m not at home. My parents feel very strongly about Memphis and they never steered me wrong. Me and my parents, we decided Memphis was the spot for me.”
Magee broke out this summer, and ultimately attracted interest from Kentucky after they missed out on Emmanuel Mudiay and others.
“Kentucky [showed] the high, high interest,” Magee said. “When they was going to set up a visit, they was going to offer then. When they visit is when they give the offer.”
Titus Randle, Magee’s AAU coach, previously said Magee had the ability to play at a high level.
“Dominic is really elusive,” he said. “The kid’s got nice size, he’s real athletic. I think his upside of being a point guard, it’s real good, almost like Russell Westbrook in high school. He’s similar, real athletic, moves well. Makes the right plays, makes a lot of good decisions and everything.
“He has great size. He’s real explosive in small spaces. He can get up and go and get up in the air in small spaces.”
Said Magee: “I’m going to bring quickness, height. I’m going to pass to my teammates, score when I need to, just be a great teammate and a great leader.”
Memphis will also get a visit from 6-10 JUCO forward Michael Chandler, his uncle, Allan Chandler, told SNY.tv.
The former Louisville, UCF and Xavier commit will visit Memphis Sept. 27-29 and is his only scheduled visit so far.
He is also planning to visit Arizona and Oregon, as we reported here.
