Southern Methodist capped an impressive week for the program with a 64-55 victory at No. 21 UConn on Sunday.
Larry Brown’s club has now won 22 games — the most in program history since the 1987-88 season. They have won 11 of 13 overall and appear a lock for their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1993.
But Markus Kennedy – who went for 13 points and seven rebounds — says the team has far bigger goals.
“It’s not about getting to the tournament,” Kennedy said, according to the AP. “It’s about getting a good seed and making a run for it. We’ve got the Final Four in our city and it should be a home game for us.”
The win capped an impressive week for SMU, which made two big statements on the recruiting front.
On Tuesday, the Mustangs landed 6-foot-2 2015 point guard Sedrick Barefield of Corona (CA) Centennial.
The following night, uncommitted big man Myles Turner visited SMU for the Houston game and came away impressed.
“They weren’t on my list last time, but they are somewhat back in the running now,” Turner told Mustangs Madness in an interview after the visit. “They are kind of like a dark horse so to say. I still have my official list, but SMU is still kind of in the mix.”
