The Harrison twins and Andrew Wiggins aren’t close friends, but the twins say that Kentucky could be really special if Wiggins becomes a Wildcat in 2013.
“We could definitely win a national championship or have a chance to reach the national championship and just always be really successful and reach the levels we want to reach,” Aaron Harrison told Steve Jones of the Courier Journal at the Marshall County Hoopfest.
Aaron had 28 points and Andrew 19 late Friday as Travis (Texas) High beat Ballard, 78-76.
Kentucky coach John Calipari is expected at the event Saturday — when Wiggins and the twins will all play.
The Harrisons committed to Kentucky in October and were then followed by James Young and Marcus Lee in what is now the No. 1 class in the nation.
How special could the class be if Wiggins joins in the spring?
“Me and Andrew (Harrison), we love playing with great players, so we just want to win, and we’ll do anything to win,” Aaron told Jones. “If Andrew (Wiggins) is the person that Coach Calipari thinks we need on the team to win, that’s who I want to have.”
One NBA Director of Scouting previously told SNY.tv that the addition of Wiggins would give Kentucky “the greatest class of all time for an NBA-type class.”
The Harrisons watched Wiggins put up 29 points and 17 rebounds en route to MVP honors as Huntington Prep beat Memphis (Tenn.) East, 76-59, before a sold-out crowd of 6,000.
They were suitably impressed.
“He’s probably one of the most athletic people I’ve ever seen in my life,” Aaron said, according to Jones.
“He’s very athletic,” Andrew Harrison said. “He can play great defense. He plays as hard as he can. He’s a great rebounder and a great player.”
Wiggins told reporters he only spoke briefly with the twins at the event but was interested in watching and speaking to them more.
“If I see them, yeah,” Wiggins said.
Meantime, the twins reiterated that they have no feud with 2013 power forward Julius Randle and would also like to play with him at Kentucky.
“Definitely not,” Aaron said of the reports of a rift. “Me and Julius are good friends. Him and Andrew text back and forth. That’s not true at all.”
Still, they aren’t actively pressuring Randle, who is also considering Kansas, Oklahoma, Florida, N.C. State and Texas, but has been sidelined three months with a fractured foot.
“Not really,” Aaron said. “I don’t like to pressure people because I don’t like people to do it to me.”
